John 2: 1-1
The first sign Jesus gave in His ministry seems almost a parlor trick. It seemed to lack the compassion of the healing miracles and the sheer power of the calming of the sea and the stunning wonder of raising Lazarus from the dead. Water into wine? Is that why Jesus came? To be a party host? Of course not, and yet there is something profound in the changing of the water into wine. Our resources always run out. No matter how hard we try, we never seem to have enough. And Jesus supplies our lack. Not by supporting us or making our lives easier, but by changing us, transforming us. Water and wine are not the same thing. And when Jesus has had His way with us, we are not the same either.
