When we are baptized, we are baptized into Jesus. We are identified with Him, and His righteousness becomes ours. It works the other way as well. Jesus was baptized into our condition. His baptism became His identification with those He came to save. Paul says it in 2 Corinthians. “For our sake He became sin Who knew no sin, that in Him we might become the righteousness of God.” He became One of us in His baptism, and in our baptism, we become one with Him.
