Matthew 22:1-14
When you receive a nice, formal, invitation in a fancy gold-lined envelope, you know this is not just an invite to a Saturday night barbecue in the neighbors backyard down the street. Chances are you are being invited to a wedding, graduation, anniversary, or some other special celebration or festivity. Someone has thought enough of you that you are on the list of invitees. What will you wear? Will your attire be what one would expect for such an event? Will it be appropriate? It was apparent that the guest in our passage from the gospel passage had not been invited. The King noticed right off the bat that this particular guest was not robed in standard wedding attire. He appears to be a wedding crasher, an imposter. Even if he was invited, he certainly isnt dressed and ready to party. In the same way, we have been invited to the kingdom of heaven to feast at the table with our Lord. He wants us dressed and ready!
