Description

Luke 9:28-36

We all have experiences in life which support the existence of God and God’s power. Many times we are at a loss when sharing the gospel with people, and they demand proof that He actually is real and makes a difference in our lives. The strongest response is the sharing of our own stories — moments where we know beyond a shadow of doubt that God intervened, orchestrated events, or shed light on a situation.   We have been instructed to spread the Good News of Jesus Christ. The most effective and powerful way we can do this is to be transparent and bold by sharing our own spiritual experiences. The Holy Spirit will guide us!

Invocation and Introduction of Today’s Theme

Pastor              Worship is a time to experience God’s presence in our lives and give ourselves to Him inpraise and adoration!  We have come today to do just that in the name of the                               Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit!

ALL                  Amen!

Opening Prayer

Pastor             Almighty God, we are here to worship You and all the mighty and wonderful things you have done in our lives.  On this day, we remember how you revealed yourself                               to Moses and the Israelites as he came down from the mountain with the two tablets in hand.  We also remember this day how you revealed Yourself to the disciples                               up on the mountain when Jesus was transfigured among them.   We are thankful for the ways you show forth your presence and give us a better understanding of                                     your love for us.   Help us God, to listen to you and the words of Jesus so that we can be a beacon of that light in this dark world.

All                    In Jesus Name, we pray.  Amen

Time of Greeting

Time of Confession and Forgiveness

[Alternate location:  following Message]

Pastor              It is so liberating to know that we can come to You with our sins by naming, confessing, and releasing them to you.    We do this now in silence, knowing that You so                               readily forgive us.

ALL                  We openly confess to You:

Our tendency to conform to the world’s standards rather than the standards You have laid out to us in Your Word.

Our reluctance to share our own stories of Your power in our lives for fear of rejection or the responses we may receive.

Our unhealthy habits that affect us and those around us, and our unwillingness to make changes.

Our hurtful words and actions toward others, some which may not even register in our minds.

Our negative attitudes which diminish the glow Christ desires from us as we minister to others.

Our lack of love and compassion toward those who are different from us.

We ask for Your forgiveness for all of our sins including those which we have not put into words.

Pastor           The great news is this:  God sent His Son into the world to be the light that overshadows the darkness of this world and our sin. We are all forgiven and made new in                               Christ.  This is cause for Joy! We give thanks to our loving God!

… We Hear God’s Word …

[Read aloud both the introduction and Scripture]

First Reading          Deuteronomy 34:1-12

The Lord let Moses see the land promised to Abraham and his descendants but he was not allowed to enter in. Moses died in Moab. The Israelites grieved for him for thirty years. Since then, no prophet has risen in Israel like Moses.

34 Then Moses climbed Mount Nebo from the plains of Moab to the top of Pisgah, across from Jericho. There the Lord showed him the whole land—from Gilead to Dan, 2 all of Naphtali, the territory of Ephraim and Manasseh, all the land of Judah as far as the western sea, 3 the Negev and the whole region from the Valley of Jericho, the City of Palms, as far as Zoar. 4 Then the Lord said to him, “This is the land I promised on oath to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob when I said, ‘I will give it to your descendants.’ I have let you see it with your eyes, but you will not cross over into it.” 5 And Moses the servant of the Lord died there in Moab, as the Lord had said. 6 He buried him in Moab, in the valley opposite Beth Peor, but to this day no one knows where his grave is. 7 Moses was a hundred and twenty years old when he died, yet his eyes were not weak nor his strength gone. 8 The Israelites grieved for Moses in the plains of Moab thirty days, until the time of weeping and mourning was over. 9 Now Joshua son of Nun was filled with the spirit of wisdom because Moses had laid his hands on him. So the Israelites listened to him and did what the Lord had commanded Moses.10 Since then, no prophet has risen in Israel like Moses, whom the Lord knew face to face, 11 who did all those miraculous signs and wonders the Lord sent him to do in Egypt—to Pharaoh and to all his officials and to his whole land. 12 For no one has ever shown the mighty power or performed the awesome deeds that Moses did in the sight of all Israel.
