Description

Luke 4:21-30

When Jesus went back to His hometown of Nazareth, the people recognized Him as Joseph’s son.  When He quoted the prophet Isaiah, the people were amazed.  But their reaction quickly shifted after Jesus continued proclaiming the Good News that He was the Messiah.  The people’s hearts were hardened to the point of violent rage, but Jesus escaped their anger that time.  His death was coming, however, and would be followed by His miraculous death escape- His resurrection.  Sharing the Good News doesn’t always end well on this earth, but the eternal reward of everlasting life with our good, good Father is worth everything.

…  We Hear God’s Word  …

[Read aloud both the introduction and Scripture]

First Reading                                     Jeremiah 1:4-10

The Lord reminded Jeremiah that He formed and knitted him in his mother’s womb and that the call and plan for his life was God ordained.  We may also need reminded of the same message today- that our very being was knitted intricately in our mother’s womb by Creator God who plans our lives and equips us with purpose for His glory.

4 The word of the Lord came to me, saying, “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.” “Alas, Sovereign Lord,” I said, “I do not know how to speak; I am too young.” But the Lord said to me, “Do not say, ‘I am too young.’ You must go to everyone I send you to and say whatever I command you. Do not be afraid of them, for I am with you and will rescue you,” declares the Lord. Then the Lord reached out his hand and touched my mouth and said to me, “I have put my words in your mouth. 10 See, today I appoint you over nations and kingdoms to uproot and tear down, to destroy and overthrow, to build and to plant.”
