Description
Matthew 10:34-42
Jesus instructed His disciples about the costs and rewards of following Him. He warned them that their allegiance to Him would cause tension and division within their familial relationships, but prioritizing Jesus above all else would result in a promised reward. By taking up our crosses daily to follow Jesus, we lose the conveniences of this temporary earth, but we gain the righteous reward of eternity in Heaven with our King.

Living in a world that is broken and hurting is difficult. We know that taking up our crosses and facing the challenges and struggles in this life are expected in this Christian life. But we also know that in following Jesus, we find hope, healing, and new life.

Help us to trust in You, God, even when the world around us seems dark and uncertain. Give us strength to love others as you have loved us.

We ask for Your forgiveness and mercy. We trust in Your promise to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Help us follow You well in this broken world.
Worshipers
In Jesus’ name, amen.
We Hear God’s Word
[Read aloud both the introduction and Scripture]
First Reading Jeremiah 28:5-9
The false prophet Hananiah proclaimed that the Babylonian exile would end within two years and the Temple vessels would be returned from captivity. On the other hand, Jeremiah recants that true prophetic words will be shown by their fulfillment and false prophets would lead to destruction.
Then the prophet Jeremiah replied to the prophet Hananiah before the priests and all the people who were standing in the house of the Lord. 6 He said, “Amen! May the Lord do so! May the Lord fulfill the words you have prophesied by bringing the articles of the Lord’s house and all the exiles back to this place from Babylon. 7 Nevertheless, listen to what I have to say in your hearing and in the hearing of all the people: 8 From early times the prophets who preceded you and me have prophesied war, disaster and plague against many countries and great kingdoms. 9 But the prophet who prophesies peace will be recognized as one truly sent by the Lord only if his prediction comes true.”
