INVOCATION AND INTRODUCTION OF TODAY’S THEME

            Pastor:             He is risen!

People:            He is risen indeed!

Pastor:             He, who died our death,

People:            Lives again that we might have life!

Pastor:             The stone is rolled away…

People:            Look!  The tomb is empty!

Pastor:             O death, where is your sting?

People:            O grave, where is your victory?

Pastor:             Thanks be to God

People:            Who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ!

Pastor:             Jesus went the way of the cross and empty tomb.

People:            He calls us to follow Him – into death and resurrection.

Pastor:             He is risen!

People:            He is risen indeed!

OPENING PRAYER: [This prayer is offered as an idea]— Father, Your Son went to the cross for us, and calls us to follow Him.  Our journey takes us to a cross as well, as we learn to trust in Your love and grace and protection in all things.  You have given us Your Spirit, that we might be strengthened and refreshed on this journey.  Empower us to live as Your people, following Your Son, Who emptied Himself and took on the form of servant.  And fill us with Your Spirit, that we too might rise to walk in newness of life.  In Jesus, and in the power of His Spirit.  Amen.

FIRST READING     Isaiah 65:17-25 (NIV)

God makes all things new.  The Kingdom is lived out in joy and fullness

17“Behold, I will create new heavens and a new earth.  The former things will not be remembered, nor will they come to mind. 18But be glad and rejoice forever in what I will create, for I will create Jerusalem to be a delight and its people a joy. 19I will rejoice over Jerusalem and take delight in my people; the sound of weeping and of crying will be heard in it no more. 20“Never again will there be in it an infant who lives but a few days, or an old man who does not live out his years; he who dies at a hundred will be thought a mere youth; he who fails to reach a hundred will be considered accursed. 21They will build houses and dwell in them; they will plant vineyards and eat their fruit. 22No longer will they build houses and others live in them, or plant and others eat.  For as the days of a tree, so will be the days of my people; my chosen ones will long enjoy the works of their hands. 23They will not toil in vain or bear children doomed to misfortune; for they will be a people blessed by the Lord, they and their descendants with them. 24Before they call I will answer; while they are still speaking I will hear. 25The wolf and the lamb will feed together, and the lion will eat straw like the ox, but dust will be the serpent’s food. They will neither harm nor destroy on all my holy mountain,” says the Lord.
