Description

Mark 16:1-8

The mourning women purchased spices to anoint the body of their Lord Jesus who had just been crucified and laid to rest.  Imagine their pain as they grieved the great loss of their only hope.  Death seemed so final and all hope was lost.  But as the women approached the tomb, they found it empty of their Lord.  Inside the tomb, the young man in white explained, “He is risen!  He is not here!”  This moment marked the fulfillment of hundreds of years of prophesies, and the Son of God’s resurrection victoriously and unashamedly defeated death!

Invocation

Pastor / Worship Leader

How great it is to know that we are welcomed into the arms of the God who is mighty to save us!

Worshipers

He is strong and mighty and sent His one and only Son to defeat the grave.

Pastor / Worship Leader

Our Lord, Jesus Christ, died a human death, but the grave couldn’t hold Him.  He arose after three days!

Worshipers

We deeply worship with our whole selves the Risen King Jesus who is victorious over all!

Opening Prayer / Theme Introduction

Pastor / Worship Leader

King of Kings, risen and alive, we shout with joy and victory for You are victorious!  You have done mighty things, and we will proclaim with our voices all You have done and are going to do.  We are here worshiping You because You are great and good and have provided for us eternal life.  We give thanks to You now and respond with hearts bowed down before You, Jesus Christ, our risen Lord and coming King!

Worshipers

Hallelujah to King Jesus!  We worship the stone the builders rejected, and we rejoice with gladness and give thanks to the Lord.  Amen.

Time of Confession and Forgiveness

[Alternate location:  following Message]

Pastor / Worship Leader

We owe our lives to Jesus Christ who paid our debt on the cross.  He resurrected and we too, are resurrected in Him- our old lives vanished and our new lives we wear as He clothes us with the fruits of His Holy Spirit.  So let us now confess of our sin, boldly and humbly, before the King of Kings who sits on at the right hand of the loving and just Father.

Worshipers

Lord, save us and grant us success as we live for You.  We confess of the sin in our lives and we admit that we cannot go on without Your presence leading us back to You, the Light.  We are sinful people with hearts that lead us astray, easily tempted, and defeated, but You defeated sin and death on the cross, and we can be victorious because You are victorious!  Help us, Jesus, to walk with the Holy Spirit who empowers us to live this life righteously.  In Jesus’ holy name we ask these things, amen.

…  We Hear God’s Word  …

[Read aloud both the introduction and Scripture]

First Reading                                  Isaiah 25:6-9

God promised His people that a time would come where every tear would be wiped from their eyes.  God’s people will no longer be subject to death, but will live eternally with Him.

On this mountain the Lord Almighty will prepare a feast of rich food for all peoples, a banquet of aged wine— the best of meats and the finest of wines. On this mountain he will destroy the shroud that enfolds all peoples the sheet that covers all nations; he will swallow up death forever. The Sovereign Lord will wipe away the tears from all faces; he will remove his people’s disgrace from all the earth. The Lord has spoken. In that day they will say, “Surely this is our God; we trusted in him, and he saved us. This is the Lord, we trusted in him; let us rejoice and be glad in his salvation.”
