Description

Luke 10:1-11, 16-20

Jesus instructed seventy-two followers to travel two by two into towns to minister healing and share the Gospel– an expected journey of challenges.  Upon their return, the workers shared their excitement that even the demons submitted to the name of the Lord.  Jesus instructed them to take great joy in the fact that their names were written in heaven.  When we do the work of the Lord, we should not be surprised by the power of His Spirit.  Instead, we should rejoice with one another that our lives are eternal because of Jesus.

Opening Prayer / Theme Introduction

Pastor / Worship Leader

Let’s pray together.  Awesome God of gods, there is no one who can compare to You.  You sustain us with Your love.  As a father or mother love their children, so You love Your people.  We are Your people, and great is Your love, oh Lord!  We are joyful as we gather together to worship You, Lord.  Bless Your people today.

Worshipers

We bless the name of the Lord Jesus Christ! Amen.

Time of Confession and Forgiveness

[Alternate location:  following Message]

Pastor / Worship Leader

We confess of the sin that once alienated us from the Father.  Once we were separated from God, but through Jesus Christ’s sacrifice, we are no longer strangers to God, but friends.

Worshipers

We confess that we were not followers of Jesus.  We confess that we were once lost, indulging in sin, and following the ways of the world.  We have been given a chance at new life when Jesus died on the cross and was resurrected in three days to pay our ransom.  When we sin, remind us Lord, that Your ways are higher and You strengthen us with Your Spirit to walk this challenging journey on earth.

Pastor / Worship Leader

We thank You for Your forgiveness that washes our sins white as snow.  Help us to live wholeheartedly chasing after You, Jesus.

Worshipers

We pray all of this in the name of the Father, Son, and Spirit- Amen.

First Reading                                  Isaiah 66:10-14

The Lord promised to comfort His people just like a mother comforts her child.  Peace and blessing would be extended to His people.

“Rejoice with Jerusalem and be glad for her, all you who love her; rejoice greatly with her, all you who mourn over her. 11 For you will nurse and be satisfied at her comforting breasts; you will drink deeply and delight in her overflowing abundance.” 12 For this is what the Lord says: “I will extend peace to her like a river, and the wealth of nations like a flooding stream; you will nurse and be carried on her arm and dandled on her knees. 13 As a mother comforts her child, so will I comfort you; and you will be comforted over Jerusalem.” 14 When you see this, your heart will rejoice and you will flourish like grass; the hand of the Lord will be made known to his servants, but his fury will be shown to his foes.
