Description

Mark 6:1-13

When Jesus returned to his hometown accompanied by His disciples, those who knew Him as a native took offense at His wisdom and miracles. Amazed at the faithlessness in his hometown, Jesus departed and preached repentance, deliverance, and healing from village to village.  As we reflect on this passage, reflect on your own hearts.  Ask the Lord to help you see through the outer shells and inside of the miracles that await.

Invocation

Pastor               We congregate together in the name of the Lord, Jesus Christ!

ALL                  We look to Him for mercy and wait for Him.    Amen!

Opening Prayer / Theme Introduction

Pastor               Holy God, enthroned in Heaven, have mercy on us who deserve none.  We desire to wait

for your leading.  We yearn for your presence in our lives.

ALL                Thank you for making Yourself available to us.  Give us the wisdom to walk in your

                        ways.  Amen!

Time of Confession and Forgiveness

[Alternate location:  following Message]

Pastor               Too many times we make our own paths, our own ways, by our own doing.  We think we

know best, that we’ve seen it all, that we’re somehow smarter than most, including God.

ALL                We repent of our arrogance.  We confess that we are impatient, stubborn, and

                        prideful.

Pastor              God, you are so patient with us.  We don’t understand because our human tendency is to

grow impatient.  What patience Jesus displayed on the cross as He was brutally beaten

and crucified for our impurities, evil, and sin.

ALL               It’s because of Christ that we are free and forgiven! Hallelujah! Amen.

…  We Hear God’s Word  …

[Read aloud both the introduction and Scripture]

First Reading                                  Ezekiel 2:1-5

God called Ezekiel as a prophet to the rebellious and stubborn Israelites.

He said to me, “Son of man, stand up on your feet and I will speak to you.” As he spoke, the Spirit came into me and raised me to my feet, and I heard him speaking to me. He said: “Son of man, I am sending you to the Israelites, to a rebellious nation that has rebelled against me; they and their ancestors have been in revolt against me to this very day.The people to whom I am sending you are obstinate and stubborn. Say to them, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says.’ And whether they listen or fail to listen—for they are a rebellious people—they will know that a prophet has been among them.
