Description

Luke 5:1-11

They were just ordinary fisherman casting out their nets with no luck.  When Jesus asked them to try once more, they reluctantly did so.  To their surprise, their catch broke their nets!   The miraculous catch opened their eyes to see Jesus, the Savior, who would make these young fishermen His disciples, changing their catches from fish to people.

Invocation

Pastor / Worship Leader

Welcome!  We gather together just like the fishermen gathered long ago together in boats on the sea.  We wait for the Lord now, for Him to show up and do a miracle amongst us, to strengthen our faith, and to call us by name.

Worshipers

He knows our names, every single one.  We listen for His call.

Pastor / Worship Leader

We welcome You, Holy Spirit, into this place.  We ask You to meet us here, right where we are and just as we are, to do a miracle in our lives.

Opening Prayer / Theme Introduction

Pastor / Worship Leader

Lord Jesus, You’ve caught our attention, and our eyes are on You.  We put aside the burdens we carried in, and we lay them down at Your feet to follow You.

Worshipers

Lord Jesus, You are our greatest catch, and You call us to catch people for You, throwing out the Gospel, and bringing them into Your Kingdom.  You empower us by Your Holy Spirit to fish without fear, to trust in faith, and to follow You wholeheartedly.  We listen to Your voice, and we worship You.  Amen.

Time of Confession and Forgiveness

[Alternate location:  following Message]

Pastor / Worship Leader

Truly, there is no one like the Lord who forgives us to our very core.  He knows the inner workings of our hearts and minds, and yet He still calls us out to follow Him.

Worshipers

It doesn’t matter that we are Gentiles or maybe Jews.  The Lord knows us, He sees us, and He makes us new.

Pastor / Worship Leader

In our sinful states, when we were without Christ, we were not alive.  But now, with Christ, we are alive!  We have been made new.  When we fail, and we will, we confess with our tongues, of our sins and our trials, that we cannot do this life without the renewal from the Holy Spirit of God.

Worshipers

So, we confess of our sins, and we admit our faults.  We need Your forgiveness, Lord.  We need sanctification through the Holy Spirit.  We need more than ourselves, for we are nothing without in Christ.  Amen!

…  We Hear God’s Word  …

[Read aloud both the introduction and Scripture]

First Reading                                     Isaiah 6:1-8 (9-13)

Commissioned as God’s prophet, Isaiah recounts a lasting vision of holy God in his infinite power and might.  With previous woes, Isaiah moves to a willing posture of, “Here I am, send me!”

In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord, high and exalted, seated on a throne; and the train of his robe filled the temple. Above him were seraphim, each with six wings: With two wings they covered their faces, with two they covered their feet, and with two they were flying. And they were calling to one another: “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord Almighty; the whole earth is full of his glory.” At the sound of their voices the doorposts and thresholds shook, and the temple was filled with smoke. “Woe to me!” I cried. “I am ruined! For I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips, and my eyes have seen the King, the Lord Almighty.” Then one of the seraphim flew to me with a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with tongs from the altar. With it he touched my mouth and said, “See, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away and your sin atoned for.” Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?” And I said, “Here am I. Send me!” He said, “Go and tell this people: “‘Be ever hearing, but never understanding; be ever seeing, but never perceiving.’ 10 Make the heart of this people calloused; make their ears dull and close their eyes. Otherwise they might see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their hearts, and turn and be healed.” 11 Then I said, “For how long, Lord?” And he answered: “Until the cities lie ruined and without inhabitant, until the houses are left deserted and the fields ruined and ravaged, 12 until the Lord has sent everyone far away and the land is utterly forsaken. 13 And though a tenth remains in the land, it will again be laid waste. But as the terebinth and oak leave stumps when they are cut down, so the holy seed will be the stump in the land.”
