Description

Mark 6:1-13

In His hometown, Jesus preached and performed miracles.  However, the people had trouble believing in Jesus’ divinity and took offense as they remembered him only as the son of Joseph and Mary.  Because of their lack of faith, Jesus only healed a few sick people.  Instead, Jesus went from village to village teaching as His disciples also preached repentance and performed miracles by the authority given them from Jesus.

Invocation

Pastor / Worship Leader

We extol the Lord!  We praise His holy name!

Worshipers

   Alleluia to King Jesus!

Pastor / Worship Leader

His grace is sufficient for us- we will boast in the Lord.

Worshipers

May Christ’s power rest on us in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, and in difficulties.  For although we are weak, Christ is strong!

Pastor/ Worship Leader

He has given us authority in His name to do miracles, to trample serpents, to cast out demons, and to go boldly into this world and proclaim the truth of the Gospel by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Worshipers

We worship King Jesus who has supreme authority over all!

Opening Prayer / Theme Introduction

Pastor / Worship Leader

Lord Jesus, we believe in You, and that You are seated at the right hand of Father God.  We believe that You will one day return for Your Bride, the Church, which You have established on this earth to spread the Good News of Your Kingdom.  We ask that we would be quick to believe in all that You are.  We ask that You would give us open and soft hearts to obey Your commands, and that we would follow You wholeheartedly on this earth.  Give us Your heart for this broken world, and grant us the authority by the blood of Jesus and in the name of Jesus to do Your life-changing work on earth.  May we be faithful servants of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Worshipers

In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, amen.

Time of Confession and Forgiveness

[Alternate location:  following Message]

Pastor / Worship Leader

Jesus, we confess that we are so much like the people of Nazareth.

Worshipers

We are quick to cast judgments and we are skeptical when we hear stories of Your miracles.

Pastor / Worship Leader

We claim to follow You when we choose to follow ourselves instead.

Worshipers

We confess and we are sorry.  We ask for Your forgiveness and mercy.

Pastor / Worship Leader

Wash us clean with Your redemptive blood that cleanses us from all sin and unrighteousness.

Worshipers

We turn our hearts toward You, eyes up and hopeful, for You’ve given us Your Spirit to guide us.  May our hearts be softened once again unto You.

Pastor / Worship Leader

We are forgiven by the blood of the Lamb and washed clean.  We are made righteous in the Lord’s eyes by Jesus Christ alone.

Worshipers

   Hallelujah, and Amen!

…  We Hear God’s Word  …

[Read aloud both the introduction and Scripture]

First Reading                                       Ezekiel 2:1-5

The Israelites had a track record of being a stubborn and rebellious people.  So God called the prophet Ezekiel to the nation of Israel.

He said to me, “Son of man, stand up on your feet and I will speak to you.” As he spoke, the Spirit came into me and raised me to my feet, and I heard him speaking to me. He said: “Son of man, I am sending you to the Israelites, to a rebellious nation that has rebelled against me; they and their ancestors have been in revolt against me to this very day. The people to whom I am sending you are obstinate and stubborn. Say to them, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says.’ And whether they listen or fail to listen—for they are a rebellious people—they will know that a prophet has been among them.
