Description

 Matthew 13:24-30; 36-43

This parable has Jesus presenting two stark contrasts which move from evil to good, from dark to light, from hell to heaven, from children of the evil one to children of the kingdom. The parable is rich in symbolism and certainly contains some hyperbole. Nevertheless, it is in contrasts such as this throughout Jesus’ ministry, that we see the seriousness of the matter and the world we live in. We may not be of this world, yet we cannot ignore or underplay the reality and how crucial it is to know and embrace Jesus and His righteousness. The wheat and the weeds coexist and will remain as such until the harvest. We know that some make an attempt at doing a neat division between Christians (the righteous) and non-believers (evil doers). Is it really that clear-cut? Do we each have an element of weeds as well as an element of wheat within us? I believe so and we must come to grips with this and remember that God is in charge and will be the final judge. Continual growth and a desire to emulate Christ should be our mission in life.
