Description

John 1:29-42

The next day after Jesus was baptized, He passed by John the Baptist.  John gave a powerful testimony and shared that Jesus was God’s Chosen One.  A couple of disciples were overcome with curiosity and wanted to know more about Jesus.  Jesus invited them to “Come and See” for themselves.

Pastor / Worship Leader

Lord, You have done many wonders.  No one compares to you.   We shout out Your incomparable glory!  We announce all that You have done in our lives.  In this way, we share with others about You, so they will come and see for themselves how good You are.

Today, we ask that You would be pleased with us in all that we say and do as we bring to You our worship and praiseIn the name of Jesus, we pray, Amen.

Time of Confession and Forgiveness

[Alternate location:  following Message]

Pastor / Worship Leader

Father, we come with humble hearts and ask for Your forgiveness.  We are everything You are not, and we lack in maturity, humility, trust, and love.

Worshipers

Forgive us of our insecurities where we trust people instead of You.  Forgive us for sealing our lips when we should stand up for Your name.  Forgive us our sins.

Pastor / Worship Leader

To You, Jesus, we look for salvation, forgiveness, redemption, and healing. We look to You for love.

Worshipers

You do not withhold Your mercy from us, and we accept Your kindness.  Thank You, Lord.  Amen.

…  We Hear God’s Word  …

[Read aloud both the introduction and Scripture]

First Reading                                  Isaiah 49:1-7

The Messiah prophetically proclaims through Isaiah that He will restore and redeem not only Israel, but also the Gentiles. He will receive the worship and honor He deserves, because He is the Lord’s chosen.

Listen to me, you islands; hear this, you distant nations: Before I was born the Lord called me; from my mother’s womb he has spoken my name. He made my mouth like a sharpened sword, in the shadow of his hand he hid me; he made me into a polished arrow and concealed me in his quiver. He said to me, “You are my servant, Israel, in whom I will display my splendor.” But I said, “I have labored in vain; I have spent my strength for nothing at all. Yet what is due me is in the Lord’s hand, and my reward is with my God.” And now the Lord says—he who formed me in the womb to be his servant to bring Jacob back to him and gather Israel to himself, for I am honored in the eyes of the Lord and my God has been my strength— he says: “It is too small a thing for you to be my servant to restore the tribes of Jacob and bring back those of Israel I have kept. I will also make you a light for the Gentiles, that my salvation may reach to the ends of the earth.” This is what the Lord says—the Redeemer and Holy One of Israel—
to him who was despised and abhorred by the nation, to the servant of rulers: “Kings will see you and stand up, princes will see and bow down, because of the Lord, who is faithful, the Holy One of Israel, who has chosen you.”
