Description

Mark 1:21-28

Jesus taught in the synagogue with authority and casted out an unclean spirit from a man. The people were amazed at His power and authority. When we gather together for worship and teaching, we can experience the transformative power and authority of God’s Word. Just as the people were amazed by Jesus’ authority, we can be encouraged to recognize and respond to the authority of Christ in our lives, seeking His guidance and deliverance from anything that oppresses or hinders us.

Invocation

Pastor / Worship Leader

As we gather in this space, we invoke the presence of our Almighty God.

Worshipers

May His presence in our midst fill us with awe and reverence. May His presence inspire us to seek His wisdom, guidance, and deliverance.

Opening Prayer / Theme Introduction

Pastor / Worship Leader

Pray with me. Heavenly Father, as we gather in Your presence today, we come with hearts filled with awe and reverence. We remember the authority and power displayed by Jesus when he taught in the synagogue. We ask for a similar revelation of Your authority in our lives. May this time of worship be an opportunity for us to draw nearer to You.

Worshipers

We seek Your healing, deliverance, and a deeper understanding of Your Word. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Time of Confession and Forgiveness

[Alternate location:  following Message]

Pastor / Worship Leader

In humility, let us confess our sins to the Lord. He is gracious and kind, forgiving completely.

Worshipers

Gracious and Merciful God, we confess the evils of our souls. We harbor laziness, doubts, fears, and other worldly distractions that cloud our faith and hinder Your authority in our lives. Forgive us, Lord.

Loving Father, just as Jesus exercised His authority and cast out unclean spirits, we seek Your forgiveness and deliverance. We receive Your forgiveness and renewal. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.

…  We Hear God’s Word  …

[Read aloud both the introduction and Scripture]

First Reading                             Deuteronomy 18:15-20

Moses prophesized that God would raise up a prophet like him from among the Israelites. God warned against following false prophets and declared that any prophet who spoke His name but spoke falsely would be held accountable.

The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among you, from your fellow Israelites. You must listen to him. 16 For this is what you asked of the Lord your God at Horeb on the day of the assembly when you said, “Let us not hear the voice of the Lord our God nor see this great fire anymore, or we will die.” 17 The Lord said to me: “What they say is good. 18 I will raise up for them a prophet like you from among their fellow Israelites, and I will put my words in his mouth. He will tell them everything I command him. 19 I myself will call to account anyone who does not listen to my words that the prophet speaks in my name. 20 But a prophet who presumes to speak in my name anything I have not commanded, or a prophet who speaks in the name of other gods, is to be put to death.”
