Description

Luke 21:5-19

Beauty fades, and so will everything in this world.  Becoming comfortable on earth leads to fear, sadness, and deception.  Jesus described to the disciples a coming time filled with deceivers, destruction, and delusions.  He emphasized the importance of being devoted to prayer and standing firm in the truth.  As Heaven and Earth pass away, the Word never will.  Plant your feet in Jesus- the Word made flesh.

Invocation

Pastor / Worship Leader

As the Psalmist wrote, “Sing to the Lord a new song, for he has done marvelous things.”

Worshipers

   He is loving and faithful.

Pastor / Worship Leader

Let us shout for joy to the Lord and burst into jubilation!  Let us make music with our instruments and voices and glorify our King.

Worshipers

We worship the God who is firm.  He is faithful to the end!

Opening Prayer / Theme Introduction

Pastor / Worship Leader

Father, we focus our attention on You.  When we do that, the world starts to dim.  Align our hearts with Yours right now as we bring You our best worship today.  May we cherish Your Word that holds fast to the end.  May we memorize it, love it, and keep it close to our hearts.

Worshipers

The Word of the Lord stands forever.  May we stand in the Word of the Lord.  Amen.

Time of Confession and Forgiveness

[Alternate location:  following Message]

Pastor / Worship Leader

Prayer is a weapon of spiritual warfare.  Will you stand firm?

Worshipers

We confess we are weak and forget to armor up.  We confess that we rely on carnal weapons rather than the Word of God.    We ask forgiveness from Jesus Christ, who washes our sins away.  We forget numerous times, but yet the Holy Spirit draws us near.  Forgive us, Lord, and help us to do better.  May we be quick to pray, and slow to worry.  May we pray first, rather than last.  May prayer be our habit, and not the trends of this time.  We need You, Lord.  Forgive us, we pray.

Pastor / Worship Leader

We are forgiven by the shed blood of Jesus Christ who resurrected us from sin and death into eternal life.  Praise the Lord!

Worshipers

  Praise the Lord.

…  We Hear God’s Word  …

[Read aloud both the introduction and Scripture]

First Reading                                   Malachi 4:12a

A day was coming when righteousness would prevail, and evil would be overcome for the Israelites.  God would raise up the prophet Elijah to lead the people through this time.  A day is still coming when the Son of Man will return in His glory.  We must keep our eyes fixed on Jesus.

Surely the day is coming; it will burn like a furnace. All the arrogant and every evildoer will be stubble, and the day that is coming will set them on fire,” says the Lord Almighty. “Not a root or a branch will be left to them. But for you who revere my name, the sun of righteousness will rise with healing in its rays.
