Description

Luke 10:25-37

Jesus explained the Parable of the Good Samaritan to a teacher of the law, a Pharisee.  In this parable, a man was robbed and beaten and left to die.  Both a priest and a Levite passed up the man, but it was a Samaritan man who took pity on him and extended mercy.  Although Samaritans were considered social outcasts, it was this man that was most like Jesus.  We must follow the example of Jesus and love God with all our souls, minds, strength, and heart and in the same way, love our neighbors.

Time of Confession and Forgiveness

[Alternate location:  following Message]

Pastor / Worship Leader

We must clear our hearts before the Lord.

Worshipers

We must confess our sins to the Holy God.

Pastor/ Worship Leader

For in His kindness, He opens up His arms to us, like a loving Father welcoming us back home.  No matter what we have done, Jesus forgives us.

Worshipers

We confess our sins, every single one.  We’ve broken more than one commandment, and we admit our faults to You, Lord God.

Pastor/Worship Leader

The loving Lord forgives us all through Jesus Christ, the Son.  It is not our own doing, but all glory belongs to Him- for Jesus Christ’s sacrifice paid for our sins.

Worshipers

We love You, God, and we praise Your name.  Blessed be the name of the Lord!

[Read aloud both the introduction and Scripture]

First Reading                            Leviticus (18:1-5) 19:9-18

God gave Moses the words to speak to the Israelites.  God’s way was different than the way of the Egyptians, and God wanted the influence of the Egyptian nation to diminish from His people.  God’s way is kind, generous, and righteous.  Let us follow God’s way.

The Lord said to Moses, “Speak to the Israelites and say to them: ‘I am the Lord your God. You must not do as they do in Egypt, where you used to live, and you must not do as they do in the land of Canaan, where I am bringing you. Do not follow their practices. You must obey my laws and be careful to follow my decrees. I am the Lord your God. Keep my decrees and laws, for the person who obeys them will live by them. I am the Lord. “‘When you reap the harvest of your land, do not reap to the very edges of your field or gather the gleanings of your harvest. 10 Do not go over your vineyard a second time or pick up the grapes that have fallen. Leave them for the poor and the foreigner. I am the Lord your God. 11 “‘Do not steal. “‘Do not lie. “‘Do not deceive one another. 12 “‘Do not swear falsely by my name and so profane the name of your God. I am the Lord. 13 “‘Do not defraud or rob your neighbor. “‘Do not hold back the wages of a hired worker overnight. 14 “‘Do not curse the deaf or put a stumbling block in front of the blind, but fear your God. I am the Lord. 15 “‘Do not pervert justice; do not show partiality to the poor or favoritism to the great, but judge your neighbor fairly. 16 “‘Do not go about spreading slander among your people. “‘Do not do anything that endangers your neighbor’s life. I am the Lord. 17 “‘Do not hate a fellow Israelite in your heart. Rebuke your neighbor frankly so you will not share in their guilt. 18 “‘Do not seek revenge or bear a grudge against anyone among your people, but love your neighbor as yourself. I am the Lord.
