Second Sunday after Pentecost

Matthew 9:35-10:8 (9-23)

Jesus was filled with compassion for the crowds of people who desperately needed healing.  As multitudes gathered to hear the Good News, Jesus compared them to a plentiful harvest with few workers to tend the fields.  He then gave authority to his 12 disciples to cast out demons, heal the sick, and even raise the dead.  We, too, have the authority in the name of Jesus to do the same thing, and we have the help of the Holy Spirit who dwells in us.  Be bold in this authority and be confident that the Lord will do what He said He will do.  Give freely to others what Christ has freely given to you!
