Description

Matthew 22:15-22

The Pharisees attempted to trap Jesus when they asked Him about paying taxes.  But Jesus could see right into the evil motive of their hearts and told them to give to Caesar what is Caesar’s and to God what is God’s.  So, what belongs to God?  We belong to God.  Therefore, we must sacrificially give of ourselves to serve the Lord in all we do.

Pastor / Worship Leader

Lord, we worship You in the splendor of Your holiness.  We ascribe to You glory due Your name.  We bring ourselves as offerings to You because we are Your people.  We belong to You, our matchless Creator.  On this day, we seek Your face.  We are here to worship You, and You alone.  Be with us now, and may our worship rise like sweet incense to You.

In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit we pray, amen.

Time of Confession and Forgiveness

[Alternate location:  following Message]

Pastor / Worship Leader

All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.

Without Christ, we are doomed to hell. But while we were still sinners, Christ Jesus died for us.

With Christ, we are promised eternal life in Heaven with Him!

All

So, Lord Jesus, we confess that we are sinners.

We acknowledge that we cannot save ourselves from sin.

We need You, Jesus, to save us, to heal us, to forgive us.

Pastor / Worship Leader

So, thank You Jesus, for dying for on the cross so our sins are forgiven.  We are forever grateful and can’t live without You. Amen,

First Reading                                  Isaiah 45:1-7

There is no one like the Lord God Almighty who formed the light and darkness, who brings prosperity and disaster, and who summons Israel by name.  He strips kings of their armor yet strengthens His people with dignity and honor.  He is the Lord- there is no one like Him!

“This is what the Lord says to his anointed, to Cyrus, whose right hand I take hold of to subdue nations before him and to strip kings of their armor, to open doors before him so that gates will not be shut: I will go before you and will level the mountains; I will break down gates of bronze and cut through bars of iron. I will give you hidden treasures, riches stored in secret places, so that you may know that I am the Lord, the God of Israel, who summons you by name. For the sake of Jacob my servant, of Israel my chosen, I summon you by name and bestow on you a title of honor, though you do not acknowledge me. I am the Lord, and there is no other; apart from me there is no God. I will strengthen you, though you have not acknowledged me, so that from the rising of the sun to the place of its setting people may know there is none besides me. I am the Lord, and there is no other. I form the light and create darkness, I bring prosperity and create disaster; I, the Lord, do all these things.
