Description

Luke 19:1-10

Zacchaeus was lost. He was bound up in a sinful lifestyle and was despised by his neighbors. Jesus came for Zacchaeus. He came to save sinners. On this day we gather as ones who were lost.  We have sinned and wandered from Jesus this week. Jesus came for us.  He has come seeking the lost – to save us from our sins. Let’s enjoy this time together with Jesus. He has come to our house this day!

Time of Greeting

Time of Confession and Forgiveness

Pastor              In our Gospel reading today Jesus tells us that He “has come to seek and save the lost.”  Our Lord has sought after us and gathered us here together.  He has promised to save us from our sins and care for us here and now. Let us take a few moments with Jesus.

(A time of personal reflection and confession)

Lord Jesus Christ,

All                    You have come to save me – a sinner. I do not deserve to be in Your presence.  I have gone against what I know is right. I have been selfish and done things that harm others.  My actions and inactions have earned me a place far from You.  But I trust in Your promises and look for Your mercy this day. Forgive me Lord Jesus and renew me.

Pastor              Our Lord has come seeking you. He desires to be with you this day and always. Today salvation has come to this house of worship. Your sins are forgiven in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit!

ALL                  Amen!  Praise be to God!

… We Hear God’s Word …

[Read aloud both the introduction and Scripture]

First Reading                      Isaiah 1:10-18

The Lord accuses Israel of half-hearted worship.  He calls them to repentance and declares that sins will be forgiven.

Hear the word of the LORD, you rulers of Sodom! Give ear to the teaching of our God, you people of Gomorrah!  11 “What to me is the multitude of your sacrifices? says the LORD; I have had enough of burnt offerings of rams and the fat of well-fed beasts; I do not delight in the blood of bulls, or of lambs, or of goats.  12 “When you come to appear before me, who has required of you this trampling of my courts?  13 Bring no more vain offerings; incense is an abomination to me. New moon and Sabbath and the calling of convocations- I cannot endure iniquity and solemn assembly.  14 Your new moons and your appointed feasts my soul hates; they have become a burden to me; I am weary of bearing them.  15 When you spread out your hands, I will hide my eyes from you; even though you make many prayers, I will not listen; your hands are full of blood.  16 Wash yourselves; make yourselves clean; remove the evil of your deeds from before my eyes; cease to do evil,  17 learn to do good; seek justice, correct oppression; bring justice to the fatherless, plead the widow’s cause.  18 “Come now, let us reason together, says the LORD: though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall become like wool.
