Description

John 6:1-21

People began recognizing that Jesus was the true Messiah after he performed many miracles such as feeding a crowd of five thousand with only two fish and five loaves of bread.  One night when the disciples were in a boat, a strong squall was on the waters.  Walking on the water, Jesus approached the disciples and the sight frightened them.  Jesus said, “It is I; don’t be afraid.”  The disciples let Jesus into the boat and suddenly the boat was on the shore.  More miracles would follow as Jesus made Himself known to people everywhere to show His divine authority and power.

Opening Prayer / Theme Introduction

Pastor / Worship Leader

Amazing Lord, we gather together today just as the crowds gathered long ago to be in Your presence.  We offer You our praise and thanksgiving for Your unfailing love You have shown to generation after generation.  You continue to pour out compassion on Your people faithfully.  We are Your people, and You are our God.  Holy Spirit, move amongst us today as we offer our worship.  May we bring glory and honor to the name of Jesus Christ today.

Worshipers

In the name of Jesus Christ, amen.

Time of Confession and Forgiveness

[Alternate location:  following Message]

Pastor / Worship Leader

Forgiving Father, we confess that all too often we have been closed off to You.

Worshipers

We have been afraid of You, rather than trusting, blinded by sin, rather than seeking You, and stuck in our ways instead of following You.  Forgive us, Lord.

Pastor/ Worship Leader

Forgive us, Lord.  For You alone are able to accomplish far more than all we can ask or imagine through the Holy Spirit.

Worshipers

So we hear and believe the good news that we are forgiven and free in Jesus Christ alone.  Thank You, Lord.  Amen!

[Read aloud both the introduction and Scripture]

First Reading                                       2 Kings 4:42-44

Only twenty loaves of bread were given to set before a hundred men.  But Elisha insisted that the man obey the Lord, for the Lord said there would be enough with some left over.

A man came from Baal Shalishah, bringing the man of God twenty loaves of barley bread baked from the first ripe grain, along with some heads of new grain. “Give it to the people to eat,” Elisha said. 43 “How can I set this before a hundred men?” his servant asked. But Elisha answered, “Give it to the people to eat. For this is what the Lord says: ‘They will eat and have some left over.’” 44 Then he set it before them, and they ate and had some left over, according to the word of the Lord.
