Description

From the start of His ministry, Jesus ushered in the kingdom of God by casting out opposing demons, unclean spirits, and bringing healing to those who were ill like Simon’s mother-in-law.  Jesus helped up the feverish woman and immediately her fever left her, and she began serving the men with the new strength the Lord imparted to her.  This example shows us over and over again that our Lord Jesus Christ saves us, restores all things, and moves in the power of Father God.

When To Our World The Savior Came

LSB 551

Invocation

Pastor / Worship Leader

Do you not know?  Have you not heard?

Worshipers

Tell us- what have you heard?

Pastor / Worship Leader

There is no one who compares to the Holy One, the Lord Almighty, the Creator of the Heavens and of the Earth.

Worshipers

He sits enthroned above the circle of the earth conducting the orchestra of our lives.

Pastor / Worshiper Leader

With every note, every beat, and every rhythm, we praise the Lord who gives us the strength to worship in the joyful and yes, even the challenging times.

Opening Prayer / Theme Introduction

Pastor / Worship Leader

Creator Lord, You know all and You see all.  You are our source of strength and peace.  We come to you, some of us weary and worn, others of us with new hope, and we rely on You, Jesus Christ, to fill us with all that You are.  We admit that living in our own efforts and pursuing earthly gains leaves us empty and unsatisfied.  Only You, Lord Jesus, are worth our striving.  Only You, our Savior, can give us true and eternal life.

Worshipers

In the name of Jesus Christ we give all honor, glory, power, and praise.  He alone is worthy of our worship, and we bow down low before the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords.  Amen.

Time of Confession and Forgiveness

[Alternate location:  following Message]

Pastor / Worship Leader

When Kind David acknowledged his own sin before the Lord, he didn’t magnify his sin.  Instead, he chose to magnify the Lord.   In the book of Romans, we read that sin escapes none of us- we all need the propitiation of our Savior.

Worshipers

We confess- we are all sinners and we need Jesus!

Pastor / Worship Leader

Let’s lift our heads to the Heavens and fix our eyes on the Lord.  We praise Him for His goodness and mercies!

Worshipers

We thank Jesus Christ who took our sins away on the cross and declared us the righteousness of God.

Pastor / Worship Leader

Because of His grace, I am still forgiven.

Worshipers

Because of His grace, I am still righteous.

Pastor / Worship Leader

Because of His grace, I am still a child of God.

Worshipers

   Thank you, Jesus! Amen.

…  We Hear God’s Word  …

[Read aloud both the introduction and Scripture]

First Reading                                  Isaiah 40:21-31

The Israelites complained out of their seen circumstances, but the Lord can see all in His great power and mighty strength.  He is everlasting, never growing weary, and renews the strength of the weak.

Do you not know? Have you not heard? Has it not been told you from the beginning? Have you not understood since the earth was founded? 22 He sits enthroned above the circle of the earth, and its people are like grasshoppers. He stretches out the heavens like a canopy, and spreads them out like a tent to live in. 23 He brings princes to naught and reduces the rulers of this world to nothing. 24 No sooner are they planted, no sooner are they sown, no sooner do they take root in the ground, than he blows on them and they wither, and a whirlwind sweeps them away like chaff. 25 “To whom will you compare me? Or who is my equal?” says the Holy One. 26 Lift up your eyes and look to the heavens: Who created all these? He who brings out the starry host one by one and calls forth each of them by name. Because of his great power and mighty strength, not one of them is missing. 27 Why do you complain, Jacob? Why do you say, Israel, “My way is hidden from the Lord; my cause is disregarded by my God”? 28 Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. 29 He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. 30 Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; 31 but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.
