Description
Mark 4:35–41
“Even the wind and the waves obey him!” We hear the disciples exclaim as Jesus commands nature to be silent. It’s easy for us to just say, “well of course, He’s God,” and move on from these fun stories of Jesus’ miracles around the disciples. But there is so much more to learn from this account. Jesus is more than a perfect weatherman – He is the one who controls everything in the universe. He is the one who holds everything in place. And He, with infinite power and control, cares about you and your life. God bless us as we learn about Jesus this day and celebrate what He has done.

Time of Greeting
Time of Confession and Forgiveness
[Alternate location: following Message]
Pastor Today we hear how Jesus calmed the storm around the disciples reminding us of the power He has. It is by this power that all things are held together including our lives. Yet even as we confess this, we often do not remember who Jesus is in our lives and often turn away from Him.
ALL Have mercy on us Jesus Christ.
Pastor In the midst of the storms in our life we often do not turn to Him but rather worry and turn to others.
ALL Have mercy on us Jesus Christ.
Pastor Let us turn our sins, our worries, our lives over to the, who loves us perfectly.
ALL Have mercy on us Jesus Christ.
Pastor It is in these cries for mercy that we see how deep the love of Christ is. By His grace and mercy we are freed from sin and safe in His presence. Here and now your sins are forgiven, in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
ALL Amen!
We Hear God’s Word
[Read aloud both the introduction and Scripture]
First Reading Job 38:1–11
The Lord speaks to Job, challenging Him to confess that it is God alone who knows all and controls all.
1Then the Lord answered Job out of the whirlwind and said: 2“Who is this that darkens counsel by words without knowledge? 3Dress for action like a man; I will question you, and you make it known to me. “Where were you when I laid the foundation of the earth? Tell me, if you have understanding. 5Who determined its measurements—surely you know! Or who stretched the line upon it? 6On what were its bases sunk, or who laid its cornerstone, 7when the morning stars sang together and all the sons of God shouted for joy? 8“Or who shut in the sea with doors when it burst out from the womb, 9when I made clouds its garment and thick darkness its swaddling band, 10and prescribed limits for it and set bars and doors, 11and said, ‘Thus far shall you come, and no farther, and here shall your proud waves be stayed’?
Pastor This is the Word of the Lord.
ALL Thanks be to God.
