Description

Luke 4:31-44

As Jesus casted them out, the demons revealed His identity as the Holy One of God—the Messiah.  Although some people knew Him as the son of a carpenter, many did not yet know Him as the Son of God.  But Jesus knew His mission was to proclaim the Good News of the Kingdom to many people, and He would not let anyone stop Him.

Invocation

Pastor               Greetings in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God!

ALL                  He is the risen Savior and coming King.

Pastor               May we be surrounded by Christ’s love as we gather here together.

Opening Prayer / Theme Introduction

   Pastor/Worship Leader speaks

Pastor             Holy Spirit, we pray to you for guidance as we navigate how to love in the midst of hate.

We are grateful for Jesus Christ, who became one of our own and lived a sinless life on

this earth.  We are blessed to have such an example before us and You, Holy Spirit, to

                        guide us.

ALL              May our worship and prayer be acceptable to you.  May our hearts be open and humble in your presence, Lord, amen.

Time of Confession and Forgiveness

[Alternate location:  following Message]

Pastor               Congregation, let us confess our sins to the just and good God who sent His only  begotten Son, Jesus Christ, the propitiation for our sins.

ALL                 We confess our sin to you, Lord.  We confess that we have given into the

temptations of this evil world and have gone astray.  We confess that we have

seated ourselves and others on the throne that only belongs to You.  Forgive us,

                        Lord, of our sins.

Pastor            Jesus Christ became our substitute when He was crucified on the cross, satisfying the

wrath of God.  His blood was shed, covering our sins.  We are forgiven!

ALL                  We are forgiven, indeed!  Amen.

First Reading                                  Jeremiah 1:4-10

The Lord chose the prophet Jeremiah when he was just a child.  He called Jeremiah to be bold and unafraid and obedient to whatever the Lord told him to do.

The word of the Lord came to me, saying, “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations. “Alas, Sovereign Lord,” I said, “I do not know how to speak; I am too young.” But the Lord said to me, “Do not say, ‘I am too young.’ You must go to everyone I send you to and say whatever I command you. Do not be afraid of them, for I am with you and will rescue you,” declares the Lord. Then the Lord reached out his hand and touched my mouth and said to me, “I have put my words in your mouth. 10 See, today I appoint you over nations and kingdoms to uproot and tear down, to destroy and overthrow, to build and to plant.” 17 “Get yourself ready! Stand up and say to them whatever I command you. Do not be terrified by them, or I will terrify you before them. 18 Today I have made you a fortified city, an iron pillar and a bronze wall to stand against the whole land—against the kings of Judah, its officials, its priests and the people of the land. 19 They will fight against you but will not overcome you, for I am with you and will rescue you,” declares the Lord.
