Matthew 5:1–12
As Jesus delivered the Sermon on the Mount, he challenged the crowd to develop attitudes that reflected the characteristics of the Kingdom, not of the world. Followers who lived out these traits would be blessed indeed, but would also face trials and persecution. In times of hardship and opposition, we are reminded by Jesus to “rejoice and be glad” (v.12) because great is our reward in heaven.
