Description

John 10:1-10

In the Gospel of John, Jesus makes it clear to the Pharisees that He is the Shepherd, the gatekeeper, and all others who have come before are thieves and robbers, who come to steal and destroy. The sheep will listen to their shepherd’s voice only. Jesus also calls himself the gate.  Salvation, life, comes through Jesus.

Opening Prayer / Theme Introduction

Pastor / Worship Leader

Jesus said: ‘I am the good shepherd’ and so we pray: Good Shepherd, watch over us today in all we face and experience. Never leave us or forsake us and journey with us always. Good Shepherd, you know us as no-one else knows us. Guard us and keep us. We pray for the sick and the lonely; for the anxious and the bereaved; for those, whose pain is beyond our comprehension. Good Shepherd, you know us by our name and our identity is not hidden from you. Gather us to yourself as a shepherd gathers the sheep, that we might know your Name. Lord in your mercy, Hear our prayer. Amen.

Worshipers

   Amen!

Time of Confession and Forgiveness

[Alternate location:  following Message]

Pastor / Worship Leader

Lord, we confess. You guide us in right paths, You lead us in the ways of righteousness, but we have allowed our anger, our rage, our greed, and at times even hate, to direct our paths.

Worshipers

We have overreacted, we have taken more than our share, we have despised others that seem to have it all. Forgive us, God, for not following Your ways.

Pastor / Worship Leader

Forgive us for not remembering that we are Your sheep, and You are our Shepherd.

Worshipers

Forgive us when we have not listened for Your voice and instead have acted in the ways of the world. Guide us back to Your path, to loving You and loving our neighbors.

Pastor / Worship Leader

Help us to unclench our fists and lend out our hands in hope and healing, forgiveness and love.

Worshipers

Lord Jesus, help us to recognize Your voice and follow You only.

Pastor / Worship Leader

In the name of Christ our Shepherd we pray. Amen.

Worshipers

   Amen!

[Read aloud both the introduction and Scripture]

First Reading                                  Acts 2:42-47

In the book of Acts, Luke describes the very beginnings of the church. All were together and devoted to teaching and fellowship. They gave to the poor, met in the temple, broke bread in their homes and ate together. And daily the Lord added to their numbers.

They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. 43 Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles. 44 All the believers were together and had everything in common. 45 They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need. 46 Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, 47 praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.
