Mark 4:35-41
Many times we read about our Lord traveling on the waters with His disciples. These journeys had to be tiresome, and we read this week that Jesus was sleeping in the stern on a cushion when a furious storm suddenly threatened the lives of all on the boat. Jesus, unalarmed by the storm, rebuked the wind and waves saying, “Quiet! Be still!” And the violent storm on the sea obeyed Him. When you are faced with sudden, stormy trials, are you quick to be afraid or do you anchor yourself in Jesus, who calms the wind and waves, and put your faith in Him alone?

Father, we come to You from every stormy situation and seek Your peace and forgiveness. We come to You because of the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross that accomplished victory over death, salvation from sin, and life evermore. We confess that we have not relied on Your wisdom, ignored Your guidance, disobeyed your commands to love You first and others next, and have remained silent and fearful in times we should have spoken. We ask that You’d forgive us by the grace of Christ.

First Reading Job 38:1-11
A heavy storm surrounded Job and the Lord spoke to him in his suffering commanding Job to brace himself like a man. God then asked Job a series of questions that required Job to take a good look at his place in the presence of Almighty and Sovereign God.
Then the Lord spoke to Job out of the storm. He said: 2 “Who is this that obscures my plans with words without knowledge? 3 Brace yourself like a man; I will question you, and you shall answer me. 4 “Where were you when I laid the earth’s foundation? Tell me, if you understand. 5 Who marked off its dimensions? Surely you know! Who stretched a measuring line across it? 6 On what were its footings set,
or who laid its cornerstone— 7 while the morning stars sang together and all the angels shouted for joy? 8 “Who shut up the sea behind doors when it burst forth from the womb, 9 when I made the clouds its garment and wrapped it in thick darkness, 10 when I fixed limits for it and set its doors and bars in place,
11 when I said, ‘This far you may come and no farther; here is where your proud waves halt’?
