We know the story – the demon-possessed man from the Gerasenes who was healed by Jesus. In fact, we know the name of the demon(s) that Jesus exorcised & Legion. And we know that Jesus cast the demons into a herd of pigs that went cascading over the cliff into the Sea of Galilee. It’s the reaction of the townspeople that is so interesting, and so descriptive of so many of us. They wanted nothing to with Jesus. They did not want Him disturbing their chosen way of living. They asked Him to leave. Are there times we ask Jesus to leave our land? Perhaps the way of life to which He calls us threatens our chosen way of living. Perhaps there are times we even prefer our ‘demons’, and want to protect our herd of pigs. And Jesus calls us to a whole new way of living & a way of living in which He casts out anything that is not of Him.
