Description

Luke 2:41-52

This Service focuses on the treasures of experience that Mary stored up in her heart over the course of Jesus birth and youth. We ask the question, how can we remember the ways that God has been active and gracious in our own lives? What is our “treasure” and how do we invest it in kingdom living. God has given us the best gift imaginable in Jesus Christ. How might we share that gift in thought, word, and deed with the world around us?

Call to Worship: Isaiah 9:6-7a

6 For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. 7 Of the greatness of his government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on David’s throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever.

… We Hear God’s Word …

[Read aloud both the introduction and Scripture]

First Reading          1 Samuel 2:18-20, 2

Hannah, Samuels mother, had prayed to become pregnant as she was barren. Samuel was her firstborn son and was dedicated to the Lords service out of thanksgiving.

18 Now Samuel was ministering before the Lord, as a boy wearing a linen ephod. 19 And his mother would make him a little robe and bring it to him from year to year when she would come up with her husband to offer the yearly sacrifice. 20 Then Eli would bless Elkanah and his wife and say, “May the Lord give you children from this woman in place of the one she dedicated to the Lord.” And they went to their own home. 26 Now the boy Samuel was growing in stature and in favor both with the Lord and with men.
