Description

Luke 10:1-11, 16-20

Jesus instructed seventy-two followers to minister healing and share the Gospel.  Some would welcome them; others would reject their presence, just like the world would reject Jesus.  The followers returned with joy that even the demons submitted to them.  However, Jesus stressed that it is more important that their names were written in heaven.  On this earth, we will experience rejection when sharing the Gospel, but that should never keep us from continuing as our reward is great- our names written in Heaven.

Invocation

Pastor / Worship Leader

As the Psalmist said, “Shout for joy to God, all the earth!  Sing the glory of His name; make His praise glorious.  Say to God, ‘How awesome are your deeds!”

Worshipers

Great is Your power that Your enemies cringe before you.  All the earth bows down to you; they sing praise to your name.

Pastor / Worship Leader

Come and see what God has done, His awesome deeds for mankind!

Worshipers

We sing praise to the Lord.  We praise His holy name!

Opening Prayer / Theme Introduction

Pastor / Worship Leader

Miracle after miracle, Lord, we’ve read about Your miracles.  You casted out demons and set those in bondage free.  You’ve spread open the waters and allowed Your people to cross over on dry land.  You’ve restored the broken; you’ve healed the blind. You’ve given Your followers the authority to do the same in Your name.  We give thanks for these miracles, but our hope lies in eternity with You.  You’ve written down the names of Your people in Heaven; we rejoice now in our waiting.

Worshipers

Father, we present to You ourselves in surrender, as we sing praises to Your name.  You are welcome here and now.  In the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, amen.

Time of Confession and Forgiveness

[Alternate location:  following Message]

Pastor / Worship Leader

Once we were separated from Father God.

Worshipers

That is no longer the case!

Pastor / Worship Leader

Now we are friends of God.

Worshipers

  We are no longer strangers.

Pastor / Worship Leader

So, let us confess to Jesus, our friend, that we were once lost, but now are found by Him.

Worshipers

We were once sinful, and now covered in His redemptive blood.

Pastor /Worship Leader

We were once far off, but now He draws us near.

Worshipers

We were once labeled sinners, but now we are forgiven thanks to Jesus Christ, our Savior.  Amen.

…  We Hear God’s Word  …

[Read aloud both the introduction and Scripture]

First Reading                                               Isaiah 66:10-14

God is our comfort in times of healing.  Like a mother comforts her child, so God comforts His people.

“Rejoice with Jerusalem and be glad for her, all you who love her; rejoice greatly with her, all you who mourn over her. 11 For you will nurse and be satisfied at her comforting breasts; you will drink deeply and delight in her overflowing abundance.” 12 For this is what the Lord says: “I will extend peace to her like a river, and the wealth of nations like a flooding stream; you will nurse and be carried on her arm and dandled on her knees. 13 As a mother comforts her child, so will I comfort you; and you will be comforted over Jerusalem.” 14 When you see this, your heart will rejoice and you will flourish like grass; the hand of the Lord will be made known to his servants, but his fury will be shown to his foes.
