Description

Matthew 3:13-17

John paused when he saw Jesus, the Messiah, awaiting to be baptized by him.  Who was worthy to baptize the Lord?  John hesitated and asked Jesus.  But Jesus knew that the proper time to fulfill the prophesies had come, and John must be the one to baptize Him.  Humbly, Jesus was baptized, and humbly He would eventually die on the cross for our sins like an unblemished lamb led to the slaughter.  His death would not end His life as His powerful resurrection would occur only three days later.

Opening Prayer / Theme Introduction

Pastor / Worship Leader

Lord God in Heaven, we stand at attention before You ready to listen to all You have to say through Your breath, the Holy Spirit.  Your word is true and activates the follower to obey.  We cannot deny the power of Your word, for You spoke and it was.  We heed Your words, and are ready to obey.  May we be granted divine understanding as You release Your Spirit of Revelation on us.  May we understand the Word we read.

Worshipers

   In Jesus’ name, amen.

Pastor / Worship Leader

The Lord accepts those who love and fear Him and do right in His eyes.

Worshipers

We love the Lord, but we’ve done wrong.  We’ve sinned and we need help!

Pastor / Worship Leader

The Lord shows no favoritism and forgives the repentant hearts.

Worshipers

Then we must repent and accept the forgiveness given through the Son, Jesus Christ.  By the cross we have been redeemed!

Pastor/ Worship Leader

Let us walk in holy fear before our Maker, trusting Him with every step, and allowing Him to steer the course of our lives.

Worshipers

Lead us to You, Lord!  Amen.

…  We Hear God’s Word  …

[Read aloud both the introduction and Scripture]

First Reading                                     Isaiah 42:1-9

The Lord promised to have a covenant with His people through His sent son, Jesus.  The Lord keeps His promises through and through.

“Here is my servant, whom I uphold, my chosen one in whom I delight; I will put my Spirit on him, and he will bring justice to the nations. He will not shout or cry out, or raise his voice in the streets. A bruised reed he will not break, and a smoldering wick he will not snuff out. In faithfulness he will bring forth justice; he will not falter or be discouraged till he establishes justice on earth. In his teaching the islands will put their hope.” This is what God the Lord says— the Creator of the heavens, who stretches them out, who spreads out the earth with all that springs from it, who gives breath to its people, and life to those who walk on it: “I, the Lord, have called you in righteousness; I will take hold of your hand. I will keep you and will make you to be a covenant for the people and a light for the Gentiles, to open eyes that are blind, to free captives from prison and to release from the dungeon those who sit in darkness. “I am the Lord; that is my name! I will not yield my glory to another or my praise to idols. See, the former things have taken place, and new things I declare; before they spring into being  I announce them to you.”
