WE BELIEVE!

This series on The Apostles Creed has been created, in part, from Luther’s Small Catechism and This Is the Christian Faith, a catechism teaching book.

Each service deals specifically with one article of the Creed; the congregation is involved with speaking the article and its meaning; the music is centered around each person of the Triune Majesty.  You’ll notice that each topic starts out with “I BELIEVE”. Do we or don’t we? We don’t ask ourselves that very often; perhaps our worship life is automatic, not from the heart.  This question can provoke inner thought and new commitment. The song, We Believe! by Graham Kendrick, will close each service.  I gave no alternative to this song because I feel so strongly that congregations should learn it and sing the Apostles’ Creed as well as speak it.

The fourth service is the “Church in Action”; summing up the statement that a church who declares what it believes DOES what is believes!

The following outlines are the topics relating to each article that can be used for sermon helps; children’s sermon helps, children’s church, Bible class coordination, etc.  There is Communion on the first and third of this series.

  3. CREATION … What do I really believe?
  4. EVOLUTION … Clearing up misconceptions
  5. PEOPLE … Not advanced animals, but special, chosen, created by God for a special purpose.

 

  1. “My Jesus … Lord of All” 2nd Article
  2. I BELIEVE … Do you or don’t you? His miraculous birth, life, death and resurrection – what do I believe?
  3. MY LORD … What place does He have in my life?
  4. MY PROPHET, PRIEST & KING! I am His forever!
  5. HE SHALL COME AGAIN … Am I prepared?

 

III. “Gathering Winds …Burning Desire” 3rd Article

  1. I BELIEVE … Do you or don’t you?
  2. I AM HELPLESS … I cannot believe on my own strength.
  3. ENLIGHTEN ME … Open my eyes to God’s Word and will
  4. SANCTIFY ME … Show me my sin that I may repent and be holy through Christ Jesus my Lord.
  5. KEEP ME … Believing in something I cannot see is hard.  Keep me in the one true faith.

 

  1. “Declare It and DO It!” The Conclusion … the Church with a Creed is the Church in Action
  2. I BELIEVE … Do you or don’t you believe in the church?
  3. PRECIOUS MEMBERSHIP … The church is ME!
  4. WHERE IS THE CHURCH? … Sharing the vision from the past to today.
  5. THE CHURCH … In Action! Gather us in, Holy Spirit, that the Gospel may be proclaimed and we may all “run the race” and win the prize of life eternal.
