Description

Isaiah 52:7-10

Merry Christmas!  What a wonderful day it is to gather in the name of the Lord!  Today we will explore what makes this day so joyous and how, even before Christ was born, people were celebrating this day.  Scripture doesn’t shy away from laying out the struggles and messes that man has found itself in throughout the years.  Sometimes the prophets in the Old Testament seem to only proclaim doom and despair in response to those messes.  Today though, we hear the voice of Isaiah, proclaiming the works of the Lord, the work realized in Jesus Christ, that redeems and comforts the whole world even when we find ourselves in the worst of circumstances.  Rejoice, for Christ has come, the fulfillment of God’s promises!

… We Hear God’s Word …

[Read aloud both the introduction and Scripture]

First Reading          Isaiah 52:7–10

As Israel was in despair over their captivity and the loss of their nation, God speaks through the prophet Isaiah proclaiming the victory that God will bring.  These verses have provided hope to God’s people no matter the trial.

How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of those who bring good news, who proclaim peace, who bring good tidings, who proclaim salvation, who say to Zion, “Your God reigns!”Listen! Your watchmen lift up their voices; together they shout for joy. When the Lord returns to Zion, they will see it with their own eyes. Burst into songs of joy together, you ruins of Jerusalem, for the Lord has comforted his people, he has redeemed Jerusalem. 10 The Lord will lay bare his holy arm in the sight of all the nations, and all the ends of the earth will see the salvation of our God.

Reader             The word of the Lord.

ALL                  Thanks be to God.
