Description
Luke 24:36-49
Luke in his Gospel has just written about Jesus breaking bread with the two men He had met on the road to Emmaus. Jesus then appears to the disciples, who think they are seeing a ghost. He shows them His scarred hands and feet and eats with them. Jesus then opens their minds and reveals to them the scriptures. He states that the message of repentance and forgiveness of sins will be preached to all nations.

Invocation
Pastor / Worship Leader
Alleluia! Christ is risen!
Worshipers
Christ is risen indeed! Alleluia!
Pastor / Worship Leader
Lord Jesus Christ, Author of life, help us believe Peter’s bold proclamation of your resurrection, your healing presence, and the suffering forgiver of our many sins.
Worshipers
Set our minds on heavenly things.
Pastor / Worship Leader
Heavenly Father, when we are in distress, remind us of your Son, who makes room for us in this world and the next. Holy Spirit, help us love being a child of God, for there is no higher calling.
Worshipers
When we are startled and terrified by your unexpected presence, Lord Jesus Christ, help us hear your word of peace. Touch us as we seek to touch you. Come to us Lord Jesus, be at our table. As you visited with your disciples after your resurrection and ate with them, come, Lord Jesus, be our guest today.
Pastor / Worship Leader
Set our minds on heavenly things. Fill us with your joy.
Worshipers
Help us listen closely to your Word, even as you listen closely to our prayers. Amen.
Opening Prayer / Theme Introduction
Pastor / Worship Leader
Lord Jesus Christ, the light of your love shines on, illuminating the places where you are present. As the bewildered disciples pondered the stories of your appearance, you penetrated the darkness of their fear and doubt with your word of peace. You showed them the appalling marks of evil pierced on your hands and feet. You opened their minds to understand why you had to die to defeat such evil and death.
Increase our understanding, we pray, and open our minds and hearts to receive you, Lord. Speak your word of peace to us and let your love shine on any dark areas in our lives. May this worship which we offer in your name be a worthy response to your love and your sacrifice for us. Amen.
Worshipers
Amen!
Time of Confession and Forgiveness
[Alternate location: following Message]
Pastor / Worship Leader
Have mercy on me, O God, because of your unfailing love. Because of your great compassion, blot out the stain of my sins.
Worshipers
Our God is merciful and gracious, slow to get angry, and full of unfailing love.
Pastor / Worship Leader
Wash me clean from my guilt. Purify me from my sin. For I recognize my shameful deeds—they haunt me day and night.
Worshipers
Against you, and you alone, have I sinned; I have done what is evil in your sight. You will be proved right in what you say, and your judgment against me is just.
Pastor / Worship Leader
God will not constantly accuse us, nor remain angry forever.
Worshipers
I was born a sinner—from the moment my mother conceived me. You desire honesty from the heart; teach me to be wise in my inmost being. The sacrifice you want is a broken spirit.
A broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise.
Pastor / Worship Leader
For the love of the Lord remains forever with those who fear him. His salvation extends to the children’s children of those who are faithful to his covenant; those who obey his commandments. Bless the Lord, O my soul.
Worshipers
Bless the Lord, O my soul. Amen.

First Reading Acts 3:11-21
The Book of Acts records a miracle performed by Peter and John- the healing of a man lame since birth, near the Temple. As all the people were astonished, Peter let them know that it is Jesus’ name and faith that has healed the man. And Peter points out that this is the very Jesus, the author of life, who they handed over to Pilate to be killed. Peter tells them this all was prophesied and that they are to repent and turn to God.
While the man held on to Peter and John, all the people were astonished and came running to them in the place called Solomon’s Colonnade. 12 When Peter saw this, he said to them: “Fellow Israelites, why does this surprise you? Why do you stare at us as if by our own power or godliness we had made this man walk? 13 The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, the God of our fathers, has glorified his servant Jesus. You handed him over to be killed, and you disowned him before Pilate, though he had decided to let him go. 14 You disowned the Holy and Righteous One and asked that a murderer be released to you. 15 You killed the author of life, but God raised him from the dead. We are witnesses of this. 16 By faith in the name of Jesus, this man whom you see and know was made strong. It is Jesus’ name and the faith that comes through him that has completely healed him, as you can all see. 17 “Now, fellow Israelites, I know that you acted in ignorance, as did your leaders. 18 But this is how God fulfilled what he had foretold through all the prophets, saying that his Messiah would suffer. 19 Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord, 20 and that he may send the Messiah, who has been appointed for you—even Jesus. 21 Heaven must receive him until the time comes for God to restore everything, as he promised long ago through his holy prophets.
