Matthew 6:25-33
As children we were taught to say “Thank you”. And we were also taught to say, “You’re welcome.” These are two small verbal exchanges that are a fabric of our social exchanges. When one does not say “thank you” or return a “you’re welcome” you are seen as rude. Today we are saying, ”Thank You” to the Lord. And in return the Lord is saying, “You’re welcome!” In a very real way He is saying, “You are welcome my child….to enjoy all the good gifts that I am giving to you…enjoy life….it is a gift to you.”
Interestingly enough, the Lord also has said to us long before we ever said “Thank you” to Him He said “You’re welcome” to us! In our baptism He said, “You’re welcome.” On the cross He said, “You’re welcome.” As He daily provides what we need He says, “You’re welcome.” Before we thanked Him, before we loved Him, He loved us and He welcomed us into His Kingdom! So, today we say “Thank you Lord!” and we celebrate His “You’re welcome” that came before our “thank you” and how His “welcome” continues every day!
