Description
John 1:29-42a
John the Baptist was called for a time to prepare the way for Jesus to enter into His ministry. As the disciples began believing in and following Jesus, they began spreading the Good News that they had found the Messiah. Andrew couldn’t wait to tell his brother, Simon, about his discovery. Upon meeting Jesus, Simon was given the name Cephas or Peter.

Opening Prayer / Theme Introduction
Pastor / Worship Leader
King of Majesty, You call us by name. We are the sheep of Your pasture, and You are our caretaker. We cannot hide from You because you know our whereabouts. We cannot run from You, for You are our Creator who made us in Your own likeness. We are Your image bearers, called by You to do good works for Your glory alone. We worship You and we give You all praise. We love You.
Worshipers
Amen.
Time of Confession and Forgiveness
[Alternate location: following Message]
Pastor / Worship Leader
Confidence. Is your confidence in the Lord or do you find it in yourself? Do your own skills and talents fuel your confidence, or are you driven by the confidence found in the Lord? When the Lord speaks, do you listen and quickly obey, or do you doubt and question His will or existence? Ponder these questions for a moment.
Worshipers
Holy Spirit, where we need Your conviction, show us so that we may repent.
Pastor / Worship Leader
Look up, our help comes from the Lord! In Him we find true confidence.
Worshipers
Lord, forgive us for putting confidence in ourselves. We are nothing without You. Forgive us for doubting, running, and ignoring Your call. Forgive us for trusting in ourselves or others more than we put our trust in You. You are unwavering, faultless, kind, and true. We want to follow You and put our hope and trust in You.
Pastor / Worship Leader
May You stir our hearts for You, and may You be the only confidence that we find.
Worshipers
Amen.
We Hear God’s Word
[Read aloud both the introduction and Scripture]
First Reading Isaiah 49:1-7
The prophetic words of Jesus, the Messiah, was spoken through Isaiah. Jesus is the called One, our Savior, whose authority is greater than any authority on earth.
Listen to me, you islands; hear this, you distant nations: Before I was born the Lord called me; from my mother’s womb he has spoken my name. 2 He made my mouth like a sharpened sword, in the shadow of his hand he hid me; he made me into a polished arrow and concealed me in his quiver. 3 He said to me, “You are my servant, Israel, in whom I will display my splendor.” 4 But I said, “I have labored in vain; I have spent my strength for nothing at all. Yet what is due me is in the Lord’s hand, and my reward is with my God.” 5 And now the Lord says he who formed me in the womb to be his servant to bring Jacob back to him and gather Israel to himself, for I am honored in the eyes of the Lord and my God has been my strength— 6 he says: “It is too small a thing for you to be my servant to restore the tribes of Jacob and bring back those of Israel I have kept. I will also make you a light for the Gentiles, that my salvation may reach to the ends of the earth.” 7 This is what the Lord says— the Redeemer and Holy One of Israel— to him who was despised and abhorred by the nation, to the servant of rulers: “Kings will see you and stand up, princes will see and bow down, because of the Lord, who is faithful, the Holy One of Israel, who has chosen you.”
