Following Jesus will always lead us into a wilderness. That’s where the Spirit drove Jesus, and that’s where His Spirit drives us. And in the wilderness, we are stretched. We are put into a position where we learn to trust God, even when He seems absent – especially when He seems absent. Jesus entered the wilderness and Satan brought temptations – all of which were designed to have Jesus assert His position and seek some kind of validation of His ministry from His Father. And He was stretched and pulled, and Satan’s intent was that He would snap. He didn’t. He didn’t put His Father to the test. He simply trusted. It’s right there faith is stretched, as we are simply surrendered to the Father, needing no sign nor validation, and we trust.
