Description

John 14:23-31

In the upper room with His disciples, Jesus explains that He must go to be with the Father. They had shared the Passover meal. Jesus had just washed the disciples’ feet. He had predicted His betrayal and also Peter’s denial. They do not understand, and their hearts are troubled.  Jesus comforts them with promises to come back and take them with Him. And He promises them the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of Truth, the Advocate who will teach them all things and remind them of everything He said.

Pastor / Worship Leader

Heavenly Father, we thank you for sending your Son Jesus to suffer the punishment we deserve. We are thankful that Jesus is alive and seated at your right hand.  Father, thank you for sending the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of Truth in Jesus’ name, just as you said you would do. Oh what an awesome day that was when the followers of Jesus were filled with the Holy Spirit, thousands were saved that very day. We praise you and worship you today for exactly who you are- Father, Son and Holy Spirit. In Jesus Name we pray.

…  We Hear God’s Word  …

[Read aloud both the introduction and Scripture]

First Reading                                  Genesis 11:1-9

From one common language to many

Now the whole world had one language and a common speech. As people moved eastward, they found a plain in Shinar and settled there. They said to each other, “Come, let’s make bricks and bake them thoroughly.” They used brick instead of stone, and tar for mortar. Then they said, “Come, let us build ourselves a city, with a tower that reaches to the heavens, so that we may make a name for ourselves; otherwise we will be scattered over the face of the whole earth.” But the Lord came down to see the city and the tower the people were building. The Lord said, “If as one people speaking the same language they have begun to do this, then nothing they plan to do will be impossible for them. Come, let us go down and confuse their language so they will not understand each other.” So the Lord scattered them from there over all the earth, and they stopped building the city. That is why it was called Babel—because there the Lord confused the language of the whole world. From there the Lord scattered them over the face of the whole earth.
