Description

Mark 5:21-43

On His way to heal the dying daughter of a Jairus, a synagogue leader, Jesus healed a woman who had touched His cloak in the midst of a pressing crowd.  Suddenly, He received news that the daughter was dead.  Jesus turned to Jairus and said, “Don’t be afraid; Just believe,” and soon healed his daughter. We can learn a lot from this short passage.  The command that Jesus gave Jairus echoes true today. When your faith is tested, remember, “Don’t be afraid; Just believe.”

Invocation

Pastor               Welcome, All!  We submit to the Spirit’s leading.  Have your way, today, O Lord.

ALL                  Have your way in me.  Amen!

Opening Prayer / Theme Introduction

Pastor               The Lord lifts us from the depths.

ALL                  Out of the muck; from the mire.

Pastor               He calls us out of fear.

ALL                  He calls us into peace through Jesus.

Pastor               Hear us, O Lord, we pray.

ALL                  In us, have your way.  Amen!

Time of Confession and Forgiveness

[Alternate location:  following Message]

Pastor               It’s time to confess of the fear that paralyzes us.

ALL                 We confess that fear grips us.  We confess that we allow fear to hinder us from

                        obeying you.

Pastor               We confess that fear gives power to unbelief, choking our faith.

ALL                   But, there is no fear in the perfect love of Christ.

Pastor                We ask for your forgiveness.  We plea for your mercy!

ALL                  We beg for your strength, to have boldness, to be confident as your sons and

                          daughters.

Pastor               We thank you for your forgiveness.

ALL                  We thank you for your love.  In the name of Jesus, Amen.

First Reading                                  Lamentations 3:22-33

God’s love and compassion is unending.  His unfailing love gives hope to the hopeless.  Every morning, His compassions are new.

Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. 23 They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. 24 I say to myself, “The Lord is my portion; therefore I will wait for him.” 25 The Lord is good to those whose hope is in him, to the one who seeks him; 26 it is good to wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord. 27 It is good for a man to bear the yoke while he is young. 28 Let him sit alone in silence, for the Lord has laid it on him. 29 Let him bury his face in the dust— there may yet be hope. 30 Let him offer his cheek to one who would strike him, and let him be filled with disgrace. 31 For no one is cast off by the Lord forever. 32 Though he brings grief, he will show compassion, so great is his unfailing love. 33 For he does not willingly bring affliction or grief to anyone.
