Description
Luke 12:49-56
Jesus has been teaching his disciples and a large gathering. He has been encouraging them and telling them not to worry but to trust Him, to be ready for the Son of Man to return, for He will return when least expected. Jesus then speaks some difficult words to understand. He says he is bringing fire! And division, not peace! Families will be divided. He scolds the crowd and calls them hypocrites because they can read the weather but not the times.

Opening Prayer / Theme Introduction
Pastor / Worship Leader
Heavenly Father, we thank you and praise you that it was your will to send your Son Jesus to us. We thank you Jesus for your sacrifice, your pain. We thank you for our salvation and our lives. We praise you for your teaching while you were on earth. For your example, your obedience to the Father. Help us Lord today to understand your word. What it means to bring fire to the earth. Why not peace? Why division? Help us Lord to recognize the times! To discern and to have clarity. To cling to You and the Gospel and to reject false teaching and prophecy. We pray in Your Holy Name.

Amen!

First Reading Jeremiah 23:23-29
The Prophet Jeremiah gives Israel a word from the Lord regarding lying prophets. Prophets who fill with false hope, using words they say are from the Lord but are really of their own imaginations. God declares that the storm of the Lord will burst out and the purposes of His heart will be accomplished.
.23 “Am I only a God nearby, “declares the Lord, “and not a God far away?24 Who can hide in secret places so that I cannot see them? “declares the Lord. “Do not I fill heaven and earth? “declares the Lord. 25 “I have heard what the prophets say who prophesy lies in my name. They say, ‘I had a dream! I had a dream!’ 26 How long will this continue in the hearts of these lying prophets, who prophesy the delusions of their own minds? 27 They think the dreams they tell one another will make my people forget my name, just as their ancestors forgot my name through Baal worship. 28 Let the prophet who has a dream recount the dream but let the one who has my word speak it faithfully. For what has straw to do with grain?” declares the Lord. 29 “Is not my word like fire,” declares the Lord, “and like a hammer that breaks a rock in pieces?
