Matthew 5:38-48

Jesus compares his followers to being the salt of the earth and the light of the world.  His followers are visible and the world is watching. The Pharisees diligently followed the Law, but their hearts were prideful and unchanged by God.  While it’s vital to outwardly display Christ’s countenance and point the world to Him, it’s equally important to let our hearts be transformed by Jesus allowing Him to shine through us to the rest of the world.  God is not impressed with our rituals, our fasting, or our praise if our hearts are not soft and humble toward Him.
