Description

Luke 20:9-20

Violent farmer tenants brutally mistreated the servants and killed the son of a man who planted a vineyard.  While this man trusted these tenants to tend to his vineyard, they instead abused their power with the intention to steal from him.  These tenants remind us of the responsibilities and blessings with which God has entrusted us.  We must not abuse the gifts given to us by God, but instead use them to bring Him glory.

Time of Confession and Forgiveness

[Alternate location:  following Message]

Pastor / Worship Leader

It’s easy to remember all of the sins we’ve committed.  Some might be so grave that we have chosen to forget them, but the guilt of our sins or the sins of our parents haunt us to this day.  But, the Lord says that as far as the east is to the west, we are forgiven!

Worshipers

We must confess.  We have a problem.  It’s called sin.  We need Jesus our Savior to redeem us and forgive us.

Pastor / Worship Leader

  He does!  He will!

Worshipers

Deliver us from evil.  Set us apart as Your holy people, Lord.

Pastor / Worship Leader

He blots out our sin with His blood.  We are washed white as snow!  Thank You, Jesus.

Worshipers

We thank You, Jesus.  We love You.  Amen.

…  We Hear God’s Word  …

[Read aloud both the introduction and Scripture]

First Reading                                     Isaiah 43:16-21

The Israelites had plenty of miracles to remember because God had performed so many to build their faith and stamina for what was ahead.  A new thing is what the Lord would do and will do.

This is what the Lord says— he who made a way through the sea, a path through the mighty waters,
17 who drew out the chariots and horses, the army and reinforcements together, and they lay there, never to rise again, extinguished, snuffed out like a wick: 18 “Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. 19 See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland. 20 The wild animals honor me, the jackals and the owls, because I provide water in the wilderness  and streams in the wasteland, to give drink to my people, my chosen, 21     the people I formed for myself  that they may proclaim my praise.
