Description

Mark 5:21–43

As we follow Jesus through the Gospels we encounter stories that teach us about Him, his power, and the heart of God.  This week, Mark presents us with the account of two miracles: the healing of a woman and the rising of a child.  We see the power that Jesus has and the power that faith in Him has.  Even though our bodies with fail us one day, we rejoice knowing that an all-powerful and loving God cares for our every need of body and soul forever.

Invocation and Introduction of Today’s Theme

Pastor              Let us begin this time together,

ALL                  In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen!

Opening Prayer

Pastor              Oh Lord God, heavenly Father,

ALL                  Bless us this day.  We pray that You would send Your Spirit into this holy place and guide us.  It is by Your great love that we have come                                            together in faith.  We call upon Your promises to care for our every need as we fully rely on You.  Amen.

Time of Greeting

Time of Confession and Forgiveness

[Alternate location:  following Message]

Pastor              Here we are in the presence of God and one another, enjoying the Love of Christ that binds us all.  Even in the midst of this blessed time, it is good for us to turn to our                              God and confess before Him, and one another, that we do not always live in the light of Christ but instead walk in the darkness of sin.  Let us rely on His love and                                        mercy.

Moment of silence

Pastor              We pray,

ALL                  Oh Lord God, we acknowledge that we have sinned against You and one another.  We don’t follow the example of Your son and so often ignore                              Him throughout our week.  We trust in Your love and come to You this day asking for forgiveness for the sake of Your Son, Jesus Christ, our                                  Lord.  Amen.

Pastor             Our Lord is a great healer.  He cares for all our needs including forgiving our sins and restoring us anew.  By the mighty loving work of Jesus Christ, dying for you and                                rising again, your sins have been forgiven, in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.

ALL                  Amen!

… We Hear God’s Word …

[Read aloud both the introduction and Scripture]

First Reading        Lamentations 3:22–33

The Lord is good, always.  Even though we may suffer for a time in this life, it is used for good by the Lord.

22The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; 23they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. 24“The Lord is my portion,” says my soul, “therefore I will hope in him.” 25The Lord is good to those who wait for him, to the soul who seeks him. 26It is good that one should wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord. 27It is good for a man that he bear the yoke in his youth.28Let him sit alone in silence when it is laid on him; 29let him put his mouth in the dust— may yet be hope; 30let him give his cheek to the one who strikes, and let him be filled with insults. 31For the Lord will not cast off forever, 32but, though he cause grief, he will have compassion according to the abundance of his steadfast love; 33for he does not willingly afflict or grieve the children of men.

Pastor                 This is the Word of the Lord.

All                       Thanks be to God.
