Description

Phil. 2:5–11

We like to think that Jesus had a choice on that first Palm Sunday: to travel into the city where He would die in a few days or to go another way. From our view He certainly had that choice, however because of His love for us and His perfect obedience to the Father, Jesus continue on the path that would lead to our salvation.  Jesus gave it all up for you, and we begin this most Holy Week celebrating: Hosanna!  Hosanna in the Highest!

ALL                  Christ have mercy!  Hosanna! Hosanna in the highest!  Amen.

Time of Greeting

Depending on your customs, it may be a good time to mention the greeting the father makes in the story today – a welcoming familial embrace.  Everyone may not kiss like he would have, but a good point to make anyway!

Time of Confession and Forgiveness

[Alternate location:  following Message]

Pastor              Behold, your King comes to save you.  Even here, in this place, He comes to save you.

ALL                  To save us from our sins, from what we have done and what we have left undone.

Pastor              He is the most high God, sent to redeem you.

ALL                  Lord Jesus, forgive us our sins! Hosanna, Hosanna in the highest!

Pastor              King of glory, rescue us.

ALL                  Amen.

Pastor              Jesus Christ has come and has emptied Himself for us, giving Himself over to death.  By the grace of God you have been freed from sin, death, and the devil.  Your sins                            are forgiven and you are free!  In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.

ALL                  Amen!  Hosanna!  Hosanna in the highest!

… We Hear God’s Word …

[Read aloud both the introduction and Scripture]

First Reading     Deuteronomy 32:36-39

The words of the Lord through Moses remind Israel that He is all powerful and that worship of false gods yields nothing.

36 The Lord will vindicate his people and have compassion on his servants, when he sees that their power is gone and there is none remaining bond or free. 37Then he will say, “Where are their gods, the rock in which they took refuge, 38who ate the fat of their sacrifices and drank the wine of their drink offering? Let them rise up and help you; let them be your protection!” 39“See now that I, even I, am he, and there is no god beside me; I kill and I make alive; I wound and I heal; and there is none that can deliver out of my hand.”

A    This is the Word of the Lord.

C    Thanks be to God.
