Description
John 14:8-17[25-27]
Philip had been a disciple of Jesus for a few years and he still did not connect the dots that Jesus and the Father were one. Jesus was patient with him, and explained once again that whoever believes in Him, believes in the Father. As Jesus mediates for us, another advocate has been sent to us to remind us of everything the Lord has said. The Advocate is the Holy Spirit.

Opening Prayer / Theme Introduction
Pastor/Worship Leader speaks
Pastor We are blessed to be your people, Lord. You know the number of hairs on our heads,
the desires of our hearts, and you love us where we are. We have your approval through
Your Son, Jesus Christ, and have your Advocate, the Holy Spirit to lead, counsel, and
guide us.
ALL Thank you for your love, Lord, and for your presence in us through the Holy Spirit.
Amen!
Time of Confession and Forgiveness
[Alternate location: following Message]
Pastor Father, we humble ourselves before You.
ALL We are broken and sinful people.
Pastor We confess that too often we forget that this life on earth is only temporary and our goal
is Your glory, not ours.
ALL Like the people building the Tower of Babel, we have forgotten that You are God
and we are not. We confess, this Lord.
Pastor Forgive us. Keep us humble before you. May we not walk in pride, but in humility.
ALL It is by Your strength alone. Thank You for Your forgiveness. Amen.
First Reading Genesis 11:1-9
The entire world used to share one common language. As they worked together building a tall tower, they forgot about the Almighty God. God confused their speech and scattered them all over the earth.
Now the whole world had one language and a common speech. 2 As people moved eastward, they found a plain in Shinar and settled there. 3 They said to each other, “Come, let’s make bricks and bake them thoroughly.” They used brick instead of stone, and tar for mortar. 4 Then they said, “Come, let us build ourselves a city, with a tower that reaches to the heavens, so that we may make a name for ourselves; otherwise we will be scattered over the face of the whole earth.” 5 But the Lord came down to see the city and the tower the people were building. 6 The Lord said, “If as one people speaking the same language they have begun to do this, then nothing they plan to do will be impossible for them. 7 Come, let us go down and confuse their language so they will not understand each other.” 8 So the Lord scattered them from there over all the earth, and they stopped building the city.9 That is why it was called Babe—because there the Lord confused the language of the whole world. From there the Lord scattered them over the face of the whole earth.
