Description
Matthew 14:13-21
Matthew records this first of two miracles in which Jesus fed thousands of people from just a few fish and loaves of bread. Here, Jesus had just been informed of the beheading of John the Baptist, and Jesus had gone off to be alone, no doubt to pray and to grieve. But the multitudes followed him. Jesus had compassion on them and healed their sick and fed them.

O Lord, our God, you are worthy of all our praise. You are the God who never fails to keep his promises. We thank you that in Jesus’ life, death and resurrection we see your love, justice, mercy, provision and victory.

Heavenly Father, we thank you today for your provision. We thank you for life, for food, for shelter. We know that you take care of us and bless us in ways we’re not even aware of. We know you are a God of miracles. You are the Good Shepherd. You are our strength. Father, we thank you for loving us so much that you sent your Son to die for us. You have given us grace, mercy and forgiveness. You have given us eternity with you. We worship and praise you. In Jesus’ name, Amen!

First Reading Isaiah 55:1-5
The Prophet Isaiah gives one of the most poetic and beautiful renditions of the offers of God to people of all nations. Come you who are thirsty- come and listen and accept the free offer of the richest of fare. It comes at no cost (to them). Everlasting Life, faithful love, splendor.
“Come, all you who are thirsty, come to the waters; and you who have no money, come, buy and eat!
Come, buy wine and milk without money and without cost. 2 Why spend money on what is not bread, and your labor on what does not satisfy? Listen, listen to me, and eat what is good, and you will delight in the richest of fare. 3 Give ear and come to me; listen, that you may live. I will make an everlasting covenant with you, my faithful love promised to David. 4 See, I have made him a witness to the peoples, a ruler and commander of the peoples. 5 Surely you will summon nations you know not, and nations you do not know will come running to you, because of the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel, for he has endowed you with splendor.”
