Description

Luke 20:27-38

The Sadducees wanted answers to their disputes and questions particularly surrounding the subject of death and marriage.  Their questions relied on the boundaries of earthly living, but Jesus answered with eternal truths pointing to the resurrection and that God is a God of the living.  When we make the decision to follow Jesus, we become the children of God- adopted by Him and resurrected by Jesus Christ into eternal life.

Opening Prayer / Theme Introduction

Pastor / Worship Leader

Lord, we gather together not in vain but in Your holy name.  We are Your people, bought with a price by the blood of the Lamb and resurrected into eternal life only through Jesus, Your Son.  We gather to worship, for You alone deserve the highest praise.   Hear us, today, Lord.

Worshipers

   Hear us, O Lord.

Pastor / Worship Leader

We pray in Jesus’ name.  Amen.

Time of Confession and Forgiveness

[Alternate location:  following Message]

Pastor / Worship Leader

How many times have You spoken, and we’ve ignored Your voice?

Worshipers

So many times.  Lord, forgive us.

Pastor / Worship Leader

How many times have we had itching ears, only listening to what sounds easy and pleasing?

Worshipers

Too many times.  Lord, please forgive us we pray.

Pastor / Worship Leader

How many times have we chosen what’s comfortable over what You’ve called us to?

Worshipers

Too many times to count.  Lord, forgive us.

Pastor / Worship Leader

Father, You call us into Your light to carry Your torch into the darkness, not to dwell in the darkness.  We confess and we seek Your forgiveness.  Remove our shame and replace it with love.  Take our hand and lead us out of darkness into Your marvelous light.  Wash our sins away, and make us white as snow.

Worshipers

Yes, Lord.  We need Your forgiveness.  We can’t live without it.  We ask in the name of Jesus.  Amen.

[Read aloud both the introduction and Scripture]

First Reading                                  Job 19:23-27a

Job put his eyes on God- His hope, provider and strength in the midst of the struggles he was facing.  He praised the Lord, His redeemer, and confessed of his yearning to see the Lord.

“Oh, that my words were recorded, that they were written on a scroll, 24 that they were inscribed with an iron tool on lead, or engraved in rock forever! 25 I know that my redeemer lives, and that in the end he will stand on the earth.  26 And after my skin has been destroyed, yet in my flesh I will see God; 27 I myself will see him with my own eyes I, and not another. How my heart yearns within me!
