Description

Luke 24:1-12

“Why do you seek the living one among the dead?” The angels question the women at the tomb.  He of course is not there, He is risen!  He is risen indeed!  Alleluia! This day we join with angels and proclaim the resurrection of Christ.  He has defeated death and saved us from our sins forever.  Seek the Living One, the one who is here, alive, with us forever, our Lord Jesus Christ.  Alleluia!

Opening Litany

The horse and his rider he has thrown into the sea.

The Lord is my strength and my song, and he has become my salvation;

Your right hand, O Lord, glorious in power, Your right hand, O Lord, shatters the enemy.

You have led in your steadfast love the people whom you have redeemed;

You have guided them by your strength to your ho ly abode.

You will bring them in and plant them on your own mountain, the place,

O Lord, which you have made for your abode, the sanctuary,

O Lord, which your hands have established.

The Lord will reign forever and ever.

Pastor              I will sing to the Lord, for he has triumphed gloriously;

ALL                  The Lord is my strength and my song and he has become my salvation!

Pastor              Your right hand, O Lord, glorious in power, your right hand, O Lord, shatters the enemy.

ALL                  The Lord is my strength and my song and he has become my salvation!

Pastor              You have led in your steadfast love the people whom you have redeemed; you have guided them by your strength to your holy abode.

ALL                  The Lord is my strength and my song and he has become my salvation!

Pastor              The Lord will reign forever and ever!

ALL                  The Lord is my strength and my song and he has become my salvation! Amen! Alleluia!

Time of Greeting

Depending on your customs, it may be a good time to mention the greeting the father makes in the story today – a welcoming familial embrace.  Everyone may not kiss like he would have, but a good point to make anyway!

Time of Confession and Forgiveness

[Alternate location:  following Message]

Pastor              He has saved us!  Our Lord has come and saved us from our sins!

ALL                  Yet it is good for us to acknowledge how we have turned from Him.

Pastor              He has saved you from everlasting condemnation!

ALL                  We praise Him even as we confess that we do not honor Him with our words and actions.

Pastor              Jesus Christ loves you.

ALL                  We trust in His to forgive us our sins and include us in His Easter victory.

Pastor              On this most Holy of celebration days, it is right for us to confess where we have gone wrong.  It is right for us also to know and enjoy the blessings that we have on                                  account of the resurrection of Christ!  You are free from your sins! You have been forgiven in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit!

ALL                  Amen!  Alleluia!  Amen!

… We Hear God’s Word …

[Read aloud both the introduction and Scripture]

First Reading     Isaiah 65:17-25

With resurrection of Jesus comes our resurrection on the day the Father appoints.  Then we will enter into the new heavens

and the new earth described here through the prophet Isaiah.

17“For behold, I create new heavens and a new earth, and the former things shall not be remembered nor come into mind. 18But be glad and rejoice forever in that which I create; for behold, I create Jerusalem to be a joy, and her people to be a gladness. 19I will rejoice in Jerusalem and be glad in my people; no more shall be heard in it the sound of weeping and the cry of distress. 20No more shall there be in it an infant who lives but a few days, or an old man who does not fill out his days, for the young man shall die a hundred years old, and the sinner a hundred years old shall be accursed. 21They shall build houses and inhabit them; they shall plant vineyards and eat their fruit. 22They shall not build and another inhabit; they shall not plant and another eat; for like the days of a tree shall the days of my people be, and my chosen shall long enjoy the work of their hands. 23They shall not labor in vain or bear children for calamity, for they shall be the offspring of the blessed of the Lord, and their descendants with them. 24Before they call I will answer; while they are yet speaking I will hear. 25The wolf and the lamb shall graze together; the lion shall eat straw like the ox, and dust shall be the serpent’s food. They shall not hurt or destroy in all my holy mountain,” says the Lord.

A    This is the Word of the Lord.

C    Thanks be to God.
