Description

Matthew 14:13-21

Crowds followed Jesus wherever He went as He ministered and healed the sick.  One evening, the disciples wanted to send away the crowds to get their own meals, but Jesus insisted on feeding them with the five loaves of bread and two fish.  Jesus broke the bread, gave thanks, and multiplied the food to feed thousands.  This miracle reminds us of the plentiful provision that Christ has to offer, and not just with our daily physical needs.  Jesus offers us the nourishment our souls need for eternity, and He satisfies that need with Himself.

Opening Prayer / Theme Introduction

Pastor / Worship Leader

Lord, You are the Bread of Life that satisfies the hunger in our souls.  You are truth and life and good and faithful, and we worship You today.  Reveal to us the truths and promises in Scripture as we hear and read and worship.

Worshipers

In Christ’s name we pray, amen.

Time of Confession and Forgiveness

[Alternate location:  following Message]

Pastor / Worship Leader

Eternal Father, You are good beyond all thought, but we are vile, miserable, and blind people.

Worshipers

Our lips are ready to confess, but our hearts are slow to feel and our ways reluctant to amend.

Pastor / Worship Leader

We bring You our souls and ask You to break us, wound us, bend us, and mold us into Your likeness.  Unmask sin’s deformity so that we may hate sin and flee from it.

Worshipers

We have seen the beauty and purity of You, Father.  We desire the freedom and forgiveness that only You offer through Jesus Christ.

Pastor / Worship Leader

May our eyes be opened to see the brightness and glories of the saving cross!

Worshipers

   Amen.

…  We Hear God’s Word  …

[Read aloud both the introduction and Scripture]

First Reading                                  Isaiah 55:1-5

The Lord wants us to come to Him for everything.  He is available to us and gives us eternal provision and life.

“Come, all you who are thirsty, come to the waters; you who have no money, come, buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without cost. Why spend money on what is not bread, and your labor on what does not satisfy? Listen, listen to me, and eat what is good, and you will delight in the richest of fare. Give ear and come to me; listen, that you may live. I will make an everlasting covenant with you, my faithful love promised to David. See, I have made him a witness to the peoples, a ruler and commander of the peoples. Surely you will summon nations you know not, and nations you do not know will come running to you, because of the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel, for he has endowed you with splendor.”
