The Grace of Receiving: Paul quoted Jesus as saying, “It is more blessed to give than to receive.” In today’s First Lesson and the Gospel, we see the order inverted. David told the prophet Nathan that he would build a house for God, but God told David it would be the other way around & God would build a “house” for David. And Mary, hearing Gabriel’s message, thought maybe she had to do some part & she was concerned because she was a virgin. The angel set Mary straight & conception was something God was going to do for Mary (and the whole world as a result). God gives. We receive. It’s always in that order.
